Doug Thompson joined a national construction company in 2007 as Vice President and Division Manager of the company’s Texas operations. The company had previously entered the Texas marketplace in 2002 and engaged him to further develop their footprint across the entire State with offices in Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. At that time, the company was operating at a loss due to troubled projects. He was tasked with overseeing the dispute resolution management of these projects. In doing so, he oversaw the management of counsel, outside attorneys, expenses, risk managers, and other specialty consultants such as testing personnel, geotechnical engineers and other engineers. For five years, his focus was on successfully resolving challenged projects with the least exposure to the company possible.
Previously, he was with a Dallas based national design and construction firm from 1984 to 2007. There, he participated in the successful completion of a diverse group of projects, each of which had its own unique set of challenges and objectives. These projects included educational, municipal, mixed-use, office, industrial, hotel, residential, corporate, and sports related facilities. After managing multiple complex projects, he served in various roles in business development, marketing, development of the school construction market, and early development of both the Austin and Fort Worth offices.
In September of 2012, he opened Construction Advisory Specialists, serving a wide range of clients such as developers, law firms, construction companies, lenders, subcontractors, commercial property owners, and disaster recovery companies. He has successfully managed many different assignments ranging from litigation support, dispute resolution support, lender representation, owner representation, project management, business consulting, business planning, safety support, and business market planning. He has over 40 years of construction experience.
